Chapter 5 - Catching Feelings

Nervously, you stood from your chair. You couldn't not stare at the door. It seemed ominous, like a villain you had to face. Oh, how you wanted to open it, but you just couldn't.

    It knocked again.

You snapped out of your trance and walked up to the door. Nervously but hastily, you turned the knob and pulled back. The door swung open, revealing the bunny girl behind.

She wore bright red sweatpants, with a white stripe on the side of the legs. These above her black and white slippers, that almost looked like shoes. She wore a blank white v-neck shirt, and a bright red hoodie. She rested her hands in her pants pockets, with the corners of the hoodie draped over. The hoodie itself had white strings at the base of the hood, one of which was slightly longer than the other. She wore her hair down, and had a bright look in her eye. They were both widened, but relaxed at the same time. She had a smile on her face. Her hair flowed dramatically behind her, in perfectly straight, almost shining brown lines. “Hey.” She said.

“Hi.” You said emptily, shocked at how pretty she was just in her PJs. “Can I…” She asked quietly, pointing lightly into the room. “Of course! Sorry!” You said quickly, stepping aside. She smiled bigger for half a second before strolling in casually. You closed the door slowly. It produced a silence breaking click noise as the locks reconnected. “Nice dorm.” Velvet said. You turned to see her facing the window, looking around your team’s room. “Thanks.” You said nervously. “You decorate it?” She asked, still not turning around. “Yeah. Me and the team. We split up the work amongst the four of us.” You explained. “Cool.” She said, still with that chill voice.

She spun around on her heel, and did a perfect 180 to face you. “So!” She said, setting her other foot on the ground. “What do you need help with?”

“Oh, my homework is over here.” You said, gesturing towards the desk by the door. She walked over, you following. You met on opposite sides of the pushed in chair. “The grimm, right?” She leaned over the desk and stared down at the book, seeing a picture of a Nevermore, along with its weak spots highlighted in big, translucent, dark red dots.

She looked over to your worksheet, which was about half finished. “Stuck on Nevermores?” She questioned, seeing the next blank question was on them. She looked up, and into your eyes, which were still as wide as ever. “Where's your pencil?” You reached to the desk and picked it up off one of the note sheets. You extended your arm towards her, pencil in open hand. She removed her hand from her pocket and picked up the pencil, but she took her time grabbing it. It was almost like she was touching your hand just for the fun of it.

She turned to the book and used the pencil as a pointer. “This,” she said, pointing at its wing. “Is a crucial weak spot. You cut its wing, it can't fly. It's only good in the air.” You understood what she meant, but you listened to her accented voice more than what she said. “So, write that down.” She handed you the pencil. You grabbed the pencil, but did the same thing she did, and touched her hand lightly. She blushed, but hid it by smiling, closing her eyes, and turning her head away, her other hand still in its pocket.

The flirtatious studying continued for another few minutes. You finished the homework, and actually had fun doing it. Velvet helped you learn more about the grimm, and you both generally had fun hanging out.

“And I guess that's that.” She said as you wrote the final answer down. As you set the pencil down, you heard a low buzzing noise. Velvet lifted her hand from her pocket, to reveal her scroll in her hand. She opened it to see a text from Coco. You rose up as she read it aloud. “Velv, where the hell are you?” You made a confused look. “Is Coco okay?” You asked. “Yeah, she's fine. I was just supposed to be dorm sitting today.” She put her hands up and shrugged. “Oh well.” You laughed. You wanted to be polite to her, so without really thinking, you asked. “If you want, you can hang out here for a while. I'm sure Coco can handle watching a room by herself.” She turned to a sad face. “Oh, I’d love to, I really would, but I have work of my own to do. We already spent an hour on this.” You checked the time on your scroll. It had been an hour. You almost couldn't believe it, it didn't at all feel like an hour had gone by. “Plus,” she said, strolling to the door. “Coco didn't get her coffee today. She's extra pissy without her caffeine.” “Oh,” you said with a laugh. “Well I'll let you get back to your room now, Velv.” You teased. She smiled, and slightly blushed. “That's a nice nickname.” You told her with a sweet smile. “You can use it if you want.” She said, teasing back. “Okay, I will.” You said. Shrugging quickly, she extended her arms. “Ah, come here!” She said, laughing. You stepped over to her and wrapped your arms around her.

You were caught off guard by how comfortable the hug was.

Her hair felt like the cool side of a pillow, and you happily buried your face in it. She held you tight, and you reciprocated. Her hoodie felt soft, like a kitten. You felt your cheeks start to burn, and you could almost feel hers at the back of your head. Her embrace just felt, right. Like getting into bed and napping after a tough day, but the bed hugged back.

You felt a smile form on your face, but you barely intended for it to be there.

She let go of you, and had a similar big grin on her face. Her cheeks were indeed burning, shining crimson on her flawless face.

Only now you realized how you felt about her.

Being forced in the moment, you opened the door for her. “Bye, (Y/n).” She said sweetly, in a deep and sincere tone. “Bye, Velv.” You said the same way, almost as a nod to when you met, but mostly to show you care. Her cheeks somehow burned redder, like the deep red at the end of a sunset. She walked out, smiling, and started down the hall slowly. You stood for a moment, hearing the soft thumps of her footsteps against the carpet, holding the door still open in your hand. As the elevator made noises, ready to carry her to her floor, you slowly closed the door. It creaked slightly, in a low pitch. A brief moment of silence fell between the clicks of the closing door. You stood at the closed door, holding the knob loosely in your shaking hand. Your head was hung low, eyes closed, smile big, cheeks flaming.

    “Wow.” You said.

    The door knocked loudly.

You jumped and accidentally turned it open to see Ruby outside, holding her scythe, in its concealed form. “Found it.” She said happily. “Left it in the cafeteria.”

You barely looked at or heard her. Cheeks still flaming like a campfire, you stared at the ground, slightly smiling.

“You okay?” Ruby asked, leaning down to try and see your face. You looked up, your cheeks turning cold. “Yeah, I'm great. Did you find your scythe?” You saw it in her pale hand. “Oh, you did. Where was it?”

In a flash of red, she ran into the room, sending rose petals flying. You turned quickly to see her sitting on one of the beds, legs crossed towards you in the same way they were the night you met Velvet.

“What happened with Velvet?” She asked. You stared back in response. She looked at you, wide, silver eyes gleaming with brilliant curiosity. No jokes, just a serious want to know.

    You closed the door.
